ROBERT ADAMS MOVIE PROJECT

A few academics realize that the subject matter of their studies has no physical existence, it is just thoughts. Fewer ever realize that the entire world is just thoughts. Yet, as studies of the apparently real, appear to be able to accomplish things, such as nuclear energy and psychological healing.

About 15 years into studying self, I ran into the conceptual mind field called "Object Relations Theory," which is a subset of psychoanalytic theory.

Object relations theory's (ORT) primary concept was that the self, that is the primary identification set of a person, was actually an apparently structured set of fantasies, images, thoughts, identifications, etc., structured through a process of sequential identifications and cognitive skill development beginning in the first months of life, and eventuating in the "birth" of the self approximately around the age of three.

It should be noted that this is exactly the age Nisargadatta says is the time of the birth of I Am. Nisargadatta asks us to explore the time before that I AM came into existence, while psychoanalysis asks us to explore a more limited period between the birth of the body and the birth of the self in order to understand the building process and to learn how to do better therapy as we understand the building processes and failures of optimal building in order to fix things that went wrong in development, so as to diminish pain and increase functionality in the apparent world.

In 1985 I returned to school at a graduate college offering doctorates in psychology. I did this not because I wanted to, but I needed to do it to get a job. This was a college (Sierra University) that basically allowed self-guided studies of topics the student wanted to explore under the guidance of a mentor, in my case, Eric Reitz, a brilliant psychotherapist.

Posted below is one of the journal articles and chapters from two books I wrote during that time. I think some object relations theorists may find these works helpful in creating new models that can be used for more effective psychotherapy.

Anyway, the page http://itisnotreal.com/gpage4.html will be expanding as chapters from those books are added.

A new, downloadable booklet of dialogues with a Kriya Yoga student, is available here. The student makes very rapid progress in just a very short time, which clearly demonstrates how concentration and meditation can be decisive in reaching the ultimate understanding of who and what you are. This flies in the face of many modern Advaita teachers who say you only have to listen to the teachings. In fact, Robert Adams strongly recommended both formal and informal meditation on self and self-inquiry. Nisargadatta highly recommends paying attention to one's beingness.

Downloadable booklet on Self-Knowledge and Liberation for meditation practitioners.

Something exciting is happening. During the past three month some highly developed Kriya Yoga practitioners have discovered this site and been deeply impacted by Advaita philosophy and the practice of self-inquiry as taught by Robert Adams, Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta. Very soon after their shift from Kriya style meditation to self-inquiry, they made extremely rapid progress. Some of the dialogues with these remarkable students is posted on the blog associated with this site, http://itisnotreal.blogspot.com. I highly urge readers of this site to check this blog for pointers on practice and states encountered during practice. Also download this small booklet on Self-Knowledge and Liberation for meditation practitioners.

ROBERT ADAMS MOVIE PROJECT

A devotee has written a script about Robert's life including scenes in America with Robert's teachers Joel Goldsmith and Paramahansa Yogananda, and masters he stayed with in India such as Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj.  It also portrays what we know of his life story, which was shrouded in mystery, but the few details we do know are amazing.  This could be the first dramatic movie ever made about advaita vedanta and the practice of Self-inquiry, especially for people in the West.

The script is very powerful and moving, but the next step is a challenge.  The project would require extensive financing and a professional team with the appropriate resources.  If any reader of this site is in film production or knows someone who is and would be interested in helping to make this project a reality, please email satsang(dot)online(at)gmail.com.

I am posting this to see if Consciousness wants this to happen.

A reader has very, very graciously compiled the complete teaching dialogues from the companion blog to this site, http://itisnotrea.blogspot.com. It is now downloadable as a 315 page document with entries starting in 2005 to present. This is over 200,000 words in a pdf document. From 2005 to 2009 I was answering all sorts of general and specific questions. In 2009 I began focusing solely on self-inquiry, self-abidance and questions about practice. It is called http://itisnotreal.com/Ed_Muzika_Complete_Netlogues.pdf.
